The 38th Annual Andersonville Historic Fair will take place Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th in Andersonville, Georgia. Gates open at 10:00 am both days with a parade at 11:00 am on Main Street on Saturday. Mock battles take place at 3:00 pm on Saturday and 2:00 pm on Sunday. Special entertainment includes performances by The Southern Gunslingers, puppet shows, line dancing, clogging, bluegrass band performances, gospel singing and much more! Downtown Trick or Treat & Kiwanis Pet Parade – Downtown Americus
AMERICUS, Georgia

The Kiwanis Pet Parade starts off at 4:00 pm; registration begins at 3:00pm, look for the tent on Jackson Street in between Church and Lamar Streets. The parade is open to people of all ages are invited to come and enjoy the parade, but participation is open only to children under 13 years of age, and their pets. Costumes will be judged in two categories: best costume and best costume with pet. The top three participants in both categories will receive prizes. Participants will be judged based on creativity and originality. The parade route is on Lamar and Forsyth streets. 

Downtown Trick or Treat begins immediately after the Pet Parade. Businesses stay open late to hand out candy and other goodies to children ages 10 and under. Children must be in costume, have a wristband and be accompanied by an adult. Wristbands will be available beginning at 3:00 pm under the tent on Jackson Street between Church and Lamar Streets. Join park staff and volunteers for “First Saturday” programs which explore the themes and topics of the 150th anniversary of the Andersonville prison and the Civil War prisoner of war experience. Every two months, the park will focus on a single word or theme that represents the events, conditions, or emotions of prisoners during the war. To expand the prisoner story, the park will also feature other Civil War prisons and draw on their stories to present a fuller picture of a soldier’s life beyond the battlefield. Andersonville National Historic Site – Avenue of Flags:
ANDERSONVILLE, Georgia

The Avenue of Flags is the display of a multiplicity of U.S. flags usually arrayed on both sides of the principal avenue or drive that leads from the main entrance or gate into the cemetery. The Avenue of Flags cemetery and reinforces patriotism, national pride and represents a visible, bold and proud display of flags. In most cases, the Avenue of Flags is only flown on days of special ceremonial significance such as Memorial Day. At Andersonville National Cemetery, the Avenue of Flags display is arrayed five times each year: for the National Former POW Recognition Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day and Veterans Day weekends.  For more information, visit http://www.nps.gov/ande/planyourvisit/aveofflags.htm

Andersonville National Historic Site — Night Museum
ANDERSONVILLE, Georgia

Experience the National Prisoner of War Museum and the historic prison site after dark in a new Night Museum Program. From 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., the National Prisoner of War Museum will be open for a rare night-time opportunity to view the museum exhibits and experience the prison site. The main entrance gate will re-open at 5:45 p.m. and the museum will open at 6:00 p.m. During this night-time event the prison site tour road and the Andersonville National Cemetery. Bobby Salter’s Plains Peanuts & Plains Inn & Antiques presents the 3rd Annual Veterans Day Fall Show – Open Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show.
